Frequently Asked Questions

What wind speed is too high for spraying?

Most labels limit broadcast spraying to wind below 10 mph, with a soft caution starting around 7 mph. Below 3 mph, inversion risk rises and drift can travel further. The Spray Window Planner uses the NWS forecast to flag both ends of that range so you can pick a window that fits the product label and avoids drift conditions.

Why does the tool warn about temperature inversions?

Temperature inversions trap small spray droplets near the ground, where they can drift sideways for long distances even in calm air. Inversions are most common around dawn and dusk on clear nights with light wind. The planner highlights those conditions so you do not spray into a setup where calm wind is actually a worse risk than moderate wind.

How is humidity relevant to spray decisions?

Low humidity speeds up droplet evaporation, which shrinks droplets and increases off-target drift. High humidity slows drying and can reduce uptake for some products. The planner shows hourly relative humidity so you can match spray timing to product label guidance.

Can I rely on this tool for legal compliance?

No. The Spray Window Planner is a planning aid that summarizes public NWS forecast data. Always check the product label, your state's restrictions, and current on-farm conditions before spraying. The forecast is a guide, not a guarantee.

Does it work in any U.S. location?

Yes, anywhere the National Weather Service publishes a point forecast (continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, and most U.S. territories). Enter a ZIP code or coordinates and it returns the closest NWS gridpoint forecast.
